About Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council

There are 21 Councillors, representing the Wards of Heathfield (14), Heathfield East (2), Waldron (2) and Cross-In-Hand (3). The Parish comprises Heathfield, Waldron, Cross-In-Hand, Cade Street, Broad Oak and part of PunnettsTown. A list of Parish Councillors is available in the office, is printed in Parish News, the Annual Report and is on the Parish Council’s website at www.hwpc.org.uk. You may contact any councillor about matters of concern you wish to raise.

Most of the day to day work of the Parish Council is divided between 4 Committees and 3 sub-committees, as follows.

Finance and General Purposes Committee deals with all financial matters, staffing and general policies. This Committee also considers grant applications from groups and organisations within the Parish. Meetings are held quarterly. The Policy and Consultation Sub-Committee reports to this Committee.

Highways, Planning and Street Lighting Committee considers planning applications within the Parish, has responsibility for some street lighting and consults with East Sussex County Council on highway matters. Meetings are held fortnightly on a Monday. The Rural Transport Sub-Committee Reports to this Committee.

Leisure, Environment and Recreation Committee is responsible for the 7 recreation grounds in the Parish as well as bus shelters, roadside seats, Jubilee Park, management of the community part of Heathfield Community Centre, also Lucas Memorial Hall and other properties. Meetings are held approximately bi-monthly. Heathfield Community Centre Sub-Committee reports to this Committee.

Burial Grounds and Amenities Committee looks after St Bartholomews Burial Ground at Cross-In-Hand and the war memorials at Waldron and Cade Street together with general burial matters. It is also responsible for allotments and will oversee the development of the land at Theobalds Green for allotments and burial ground.

Rural Transport Sub-Committee seeks to encourage the provision of effective public transport, through East Sussex County Council. It reports to the Highways, Planning and Street Lighting Committee and meetings are held as required.

Policy and Consultation Sub-Committee – considers responses on behalf of the Parish Council to various consultation documents, as well as making recommendations on general policy matters for consideration by FGP. Membership comprises Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council, together with Chairmen of all Committees. It reports to the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

Heathfield Community Centre Sub-Committee – makes recommendations on all aspects of the community side of the centre to LER Committee.

Meetings of the full Council are held on the Second Tuesday of the months of January, March, May (this is the Annual General Meeting), July, September and November. All meetings of the Parish Council are open to the public and are held in the evening, usually commencing at 7.30 p.m. in the Ian price Room, Heathfield Community Centre.

In April each year, the Parish Council holds the Annual Parish Assembly. This is an opportunity for electors in the parish to raise matters of concern or ask questions of the Council. Local groups and organisations are invited to display literature about their activities at the Assembly, which provides an opportunity for local electors to make contacts and find out about local initiatives. If you a member of a group or organisation that would like to be represented, please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council.
