Forges-les-Eaux

In August 1997 the traders of Forges-les-Eaux were invited to come to the Anglo-French Marché in Heathfield. This they did and, in spite of dreadful weather, their visit was a great success. From this auspicious start grew the idea of a twinning link which was formally inaugurated in May 1988 on the day of Ascension Day
Forges-les-Eaux
Market in Forges-les-Eaux which was attended by a number of traders from Heathfield and the surrounding area.

Since then the relationship has gone from strength to strength. There was already an exchange programme between Heathfield Community College and the Collège Saint Exupéry and this continued successfully. Apart from traders, a number of other people take the opportunity to visit for the markets and individual relationships are developing.

Participation in Ascension Day Market at Forges-les-Eaux and the Anglo-French Marché
Fête du Cheval
in Heathfield is now a permanent fixture of the calendar. Possible links between a range of sports and leisure clubs are being explored and a team of riders from Heathfield has participated in the 1999 Fête du Cheval in Forges-les-Eaux.

All in all, this arrangement has the makings of a successful long-term twinning link which will operate at a personal, social and commercial level to the benefit of both communities.
