Horticultural Society.
The Heathfield & District Horticultural Society meets in St Richard's Church Hall, Heathfield at 7.30 pm on the third Monday of each month.
Our programme is varied with talks, many illustrated, on various wide ranging subjects in addition to those on horticultural matters. Each monthly meeting has refreshments available and a raffle with numerous prizes
There are Spring and Christmas social events with entertainment. There are visits to gardens of interest, some being those of Society members.There is an annual visit to the Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Wisley.
There are well supported Spring and Summer flower shows.
Members enjoy a discount on gardening items at some local retailers and nurseries.
We currently have over 70 members and always welcome new members. Current annual membership is £6.00 with a meeting fee of £1.50 for members and £2.00 for guests or non members. It should be noted that membership period runs from 1st January to 31st December each year.
The Society enjoyed a well supported Summer Flower Show at The Community Centre, Sheepsetting Lane, Heathfield on Saturday 16th August 2008. There were some spectacular displays of both flowers and vegetables despite the inclement weather conditions of the previous week. All classes of entries that included flower arrangements, cookery, handicrafts, photography and children's classes showed a high standard.
The next monthly meeting will be on Monday September 15th and will feature a return by Mr David Lang with an illustrated talk "Lewes to Lands End" a walk in the springtime.
The monthly competition is a vase of dahlias or a specimen bloom.
