PARISH NEWS
From the Chairman of the Parish Council, Ray Bassingthwaighte
I am writing this soon after the Heathfield Carnival reflecting on a splendid occasion, and how days like this help to bring the community together. Congratulations for the success of the Carnival must go to the Rotary Club of Heathfield and Waldron ably supported by Demelza James Hospice. Well done to all who took part in the procession and a great big thank you to the people of this Parish who turned up in such numbers. The Parish Council supported the event as we do with so many activities within our boundaries. One of the features that we encourage is the need for all local organisations to work together in partnership for the benefit of our community.
We have so much more to look forward to in the months ahead, the next big event being Le Marché and we wish the event great weather and a huge turn-out.
The foregoing events together with Heathfield Show, Cuckoo Fair and the many other activities happening within our area give an indication of the vibrant community that exists within our Parish.
The Parish Council commenced its financial year on the 1st April on a firm financial footing and we continue to look for land for Burials and also Allotments.
We are about to commence a consultation process for the refurbishment of the Tower Street Recreation Ground Play Equipment and we hope that local participation will be high including the young children who use the equipment. The date set for return of questionnaires is Friday 1 August and the form can be downloaded from the website.
The Local Development Framework Draft Core Strategy covering the period until 2026 has been published and the Parish Council has now commented on the document having listened to local concerns and incorporated them into our reply.
We should also congratulate Talking News on being awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2008 for their contributions to the community.
