DEATH OF COUNCILLOR NIKI OAKES
Sadly, Councillor Niki Oakes passed away on Saturday 6th June at Eastbourne hospital, following a very lengthy operation. Niki was born in Tunbridge Wells and studied veterinary medicine at Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, before qualifying and practising as a veterinary surgeon in Lincolnshire. Niki was resident in Heathfield for 20 years, and was a long standing member of the Parish Council, serving on the Highways, Planning & Street Lighting, Recreation Grounds & Properties Committees and the Rural Transport sub-committees. She was also a member of Wealden District and served on the Planning, Environment Scrutiny and Licensing committees. Niki made a tremendous contribution to the council and the local community and many people have paid tribute to her. Her compassionate, selfless nature and wonderful sense of humour will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.

NEW ASSISTANT CLERK JOINS THE TEAM

LAND PURCHASE AT THEOBALDS GREEN
The Council is pleased to announce that a meeting has now taken place with a Planning Consultant. We are awaiting designs and proposals for how best to utilise this area. It is the aim of the Parish Council to provide allotments for all parishioners currently on the waiting list. Further land will be designated as a “woodland burial site”, together with an informal recreation area. Once plans are available, a public exhibition will be held. The Parish Council are unable to provide a firm timescale for actual implementation at this stage, but are eager to progress with this project.
